From 1980 to 1989, after 15 years experience in electronic engineering,
computer systems design and project management, Brent provided consultancy and
designed and installed barcode based data capture systems for international
user organisations in the UK, Canada, Finland and Poland.
A commitment
to advancement and professionalism in automated data capture earned Brent the
International Industry Achievement Award in 1988. He is the only member of the
user community to have received this award.
From 1989 Brent held senior
positions with companies supplying barcoding, including Managing Director of
Barcode Distributors Limited, before establishing INCAP in 1993.
Brent
has been an international speaker on barcoding since 1985, presenting papers
throughout Eastern and Western Europe. For many years Brent has been a regular
chairman and presenter of barcode workshops held at Keele University and has
frequently taken part in seminars and educational programmes for institutions
such as the Institute of Operations Management. In 1993 Brent presented a
British Government sponsored one-week seminar on barcoding held in Warsaw as an
introduction to the technology for the Polish industrial, commercial and
government sectors.
For many years Brent was a regular chairman of the
Automatic Identification User Association. From 1989 to 1995 he was a Council
Member of AIM UK, the trade association for manufacturers and suppliers of
automatic identification technologies, and in 1991/1992 was Chairman. At the
end of 1992 Brent was appointed Founding Chairman of the Information Capture
and Processing Association.
Brent is able to speak with authority on
all aspects of barcoding and in particular to provide an insight into the
practical issues involved in the successful implementation of systems based on
barcode technology.
